For those wondering what is going on with HomeBase, I will start publishing a calendar of stuff that I am working on, as well I will be starting a google group for the Homebase developer community.  If anyone is interested in developing, you should start by getting the last check in at Sourceforge.net

Things have been slow for a while, but I anticipate that I will start really punching in the coding hours on this project.  Hope everyone is doing well and look forward to posting new information as it comes available.

Peace, Love, and Code from Florida,

We Wish You A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

For a Christmas gift, I ordered myself the trial CD of Home Server.  I installed it on the original Leningrad box and have begun writing new features.  I don't know if anyone is still watching this site, but here is the lowdown:

1.  I have some  definate bugs that have been brought up by the various people who have downloaded and installed HomeBase on their own HomeServers.  I need to address those bugs first.

2.  People are having definate performance issues with Microsoft SQL server for the Blogriffic Application.  I am transfering to the Interbase Database (FirbirdSQL).  I will need to verify that I can merge existing blogs into the Interbase solution, etc.  Beta versions of HomeBase will appear on this site with the designation HomeBaseOSS.MSI where the HomeBase plugin will provide you the ability to import your legacy SQL server Blogriffic posts, uninstall SQL server and of course set up Interbase(FireBird).  Firebird is much less resource intesive than SQL server.

3.  Blogriffic is ugly!  I will work on creating a system for templating this so that you can customize your blogs.

4. There were some features that I ripped out of Home Base for the Code2Fame challenge.  Those are going back in.  That list of features is:

  • Address Book Sync:  The ability to backup your entire device address book to the server.  Also allow you to do your Outlook Address Books.  The AddressBook is already written for the device.  I had started working on the Outlook plugin but cut it short when my time was getting close.
  • Uploads:  Yes, this was an intended feature.  Now that I don't have to worry about using .net 2.0 exclusively I can actually use DIME which is what the windows 5/6 devices can work with.

 5.  New features:

  • HomeBase Database:  Think of this as a centralized Access Database program.  You set up the database and are able to easily work with it from the web, Blogriffic (HomeBase) desktop app, and your mobile device.
  • HomeBase Central: Think Exchange for your home

6.  New Features you send me that you want to see!

Obviously this is all not going to happen at once.  Items 1-4 will probably be released as HomeBaseOSS V0.1.  Target release date is currently January 31, 2008.  If anyone is interested in helping me with this contact me via my email address anipirakis -- at -- gmail.com.

Until then boys and girls-- Happy Holidays

Full Tree-Sans Desktop Client-  Now Available at Sourceforge.net

All

As part of my open sourcing of Home Base, I have made available via CVS the latest code base that was used to build the Home Base server portions, sans the Desktop Client (I hope to get that by the weekend).

Stay Tuned for more updates.  I hope to also get a site up on SourceForge for this instead of using the AlekseiByteCode.com domain.

Thanks,
Aleksei

UPDATE!!!!

HomeBase has been officially open sourced.  The currently available source code is for the mobile browser, but by 5 November 2007 the full source code of this software will be availbale for download.  The project is now on the sourceforge.net site and is available for anyone to download via CVS.  There are some forums there for help, etc.  PLEASE USE THESE FORUMS IF YOU RUN INTO ISSUES.  I will post this on those forums just in case anyone is confused about this change.  I will be posting in the comming days a roadmap for developers who wish to participate in the project.  Please PLEASE if you wish to do anything with the project, get ahold of me at anipirakis <at> gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who has downloaded Home Base and is enjoying its use.  I am sure with this change in project paradigim, the software will become even more useful than before.

The Sourceforge Project page for Home Base is http://sourceforge.net/projects/whs-homebase/

Have you ever been sitting on a train and wanted to download a file from your Home Server? Have you ever wanted to show your co-workers photos from your last trip to the beach? Ever wanted to blog when you were waiting in the line at the DMV? If you answered yes, then you want Home Base.

Home base is a two part program, essentially it consists of some software that runs on your Home Server and some software you either run on your PC or your Mobile Phone. The software for your Mobile Phone lets you download files from the Home Server and lets you to blog from your phone as well. The desktop client also lets you blog.

There is literally something for everone in this add-in, download it and see!

To install, download
